WE'RE GONNA MAKE YOU A STAR!

An Award-Winning Party Plan for Hollywood Themes

(Can be adapted for other awards parties)

Invitations:

bullet

Use clip art to make up an "admission ticket" to the awards show and print on cardstock. Then enlist a teenager in a movie “uniform” to tear the tickets upon guest admission and direct them to the “theater.”

bullet

Buy black poster board or construction paper and use a white paint pen to make up movie clapboards with all the party particulars of your "production." Or buy ready-made clapboards.

bullet

bullet

Send a chocolate movie ticket with your invitation.

bullet

Invite guests to come dressed as movie stars.

 Atmosphere:

bullet

Roll out a red carpet from the street to your front door.

bullet

Give guests top hats  and star-designed hats, tiaras, and boas  to make them feel like the stars of your celebration.

bullet

Line the walkways with luminarias made from colored paper bags star-shaped paper punch, sand and votive candles.

bullet

Post official Hollywood streets signs and movie posters to set the scene.

bullet

Get teens or neighbors to act as paparazzi or autograph seekers as your guests arrive.

bullet

Make up movie-style posters using clip art or scanned photos on your computer and incorporate your guests' names as stars or producers.

bullet

Buy black poster board or construction paper and use a white paint pen to make up movie clapboards with all the party particulars of your "production." Or buy ready-made clapboards.

bullet

Set up a viewing area with folding chairs and a large screen TV (or several throughout the party site) so everyone can follow along.

bullet

Set the stage with movie props, celebrity photos, movie magazines and/or posters.  Or create a setting using movie award-style decorations.

bullet

Make your ceiling look like a starry night with shooting stars and comet mobiles.

bullet

Substitute snack bowls with star-design derbies or glitter top hats for star-powered buffets.

bullet

Get life-size, cardboard cutouts of celebrities for your guests to stand next to for a "photo op."-

bullet

Have your guests eat from dazzling designs with metallic  gold, silver or music-note paper goods and flatware.

bullet

Serve snacks or sweets on a Hollywood Glam Tray.

bullet

Write to your local movie critic.  They often receive press packages with movie stills and might be willing to give you the extras for free.

bullet

Suspend a metallic star door curtain at your entryway. As your guests arrive, have an MC announce them to the "audience.

bullet

Play the soundtracks from that year's nominated movies or the award winners past.

Activities:

bullet

Before the broadcast, have a talent show - singing, acting, dancing, juggling or any silly thing they want to do.

bullet

Let the guests guess who will win the awards and award prizes to those who came up with the most correct answers.

bullet

Sprinkle your basic cloths with star confetti to add some instant glamour.

bullet

Have guests disguise themselves with star-designed masks so all the guests can guess whom they're talking with.  Have the unmasking at midnight or the end of the award ceremony.

bullet

Save your guests hands from all the clapping they'll do to celebrate the awards and your great hosting ability by giving them star-shaped noisemakers to use instead.

bullet

Coordinate the party time to coincide with a major award show such as the Oscars, Tony, Emmy, People's Choice or the Golden Globes.

bullet

Shoot a "documentary" about a group of "celebrities" (your guests) waiting to hear about a series of film awards throughout the party and have the premiere "viewing" while dessert is being served.

bullet

Make up an entertainment trivia contest based on award-winning actors and films.  You can use a book such as "Inside Oscar"- versions 1 or 2 - or the  "Movie Awards : The Ultimate, Unofficial Guide to the Oscars, Golden Globes, Critics, Guild and Indie Honors" to help you with your research.

bullet

Get a more gregarious guest to act like Joan Rivers or Star Jones and interview your guests when they arrive and ask them to talk about their latest "project."  Simulcast this on the TV monitors throughout the house.

bullet

Have photos of yourself and your friends from past costume parties blown up to 8 x 10 on a color copier.  Frame them along with a small banner naming a film set (real or made-up) that the picture may have been taken on.

bullet

A lively game of movie trivia either as a pre-show mixer will keep your guests on their toes. You'll find reviews and facts galore at this site.

Refreshments:

bullet

Popcorn in bags or boxes (of course).  A popcorn machine would be a nice touch. Customize with your own sticker or label.

bullet

Use film reel containers  as clever food trays.

bullet

Hot dogs, mini pizzas and candy in individual boxes are treats they'll eat on this film set.

bullet

Set up the food in a concession stand arrangement.

Wrap napkins around utensils and ring with light up star necklaces to make a glowing buffet packet.
Arrange different tables themed to a movie.  For instance, decorate a table in western style, serve chili, and/or barbecue dishes and name it “High Noon.”  Use clapboards to name the tables and dishes.

bullet

Create a Spago-style restaurant.  You provide your guests with plain pizzas and an assortment of usual and exotic toppings (smoked oysters, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, grilled veggies, etc.), they make their creation.  Then they must theme their "masterpiece" to a famous movie.  The best "production" wins a prize.

bullet

Give any hors d'oeuvres the star treatment with star-shaped picks

bullet

Give your guests' guzzles a glow with light-up cocktail glasses,  cups ,  or cubes .

bullet

For music award shows, you can use music note derbies as dry snack bowls and giveaways.

bullet

Give tickets or discount coupons to local movie theaters.

bullet
